ARTIST STATEMENT

the series "Darker" depicts the idea of a hidden energy that is transformed through birth, life and death and all the processes in the universe.   With this series I wanted to show my visual representation of a an energy that flows from one thing to the next and flashes in and out of existence in the darkness, often without us noticing or paying attention.

Originally from Melbourne, Goldie has worked internationally throughout the world as a fashion and commercial photographer and premiered the first of his solo shows, I’m big in Japan, in 2006. Now residing in Bronte he has been moving his career forward as successful photographic artist and film maker.

In Darker, Goldie explores the ideas of energy, life, death and transformation inspired by art and science with an imaginative, almost supernatural vision. He captures enigmatic scenes, which move from dark moonlit forests to clifftops and lonely corners of an industrialised city.

The subject of this collection is an anthropomorphic white sheet pulsating with light and energy. This scene is described by the artist as being “symbolic of a clean and sterile moment... a brilliant flash of energy or transformation that goes unnoticed”. The viewer is transported into a perplexing circumstance where they are witness to a beautiful yet bizarre metamorphism and are forced to create a narrative.
